Europe : Silver : Enamel : Gold Wash : 1921 - 1940
This silver and enamel Egyptian Revival bookmark was made in Europe in the 1920s. It is a hollow repousse relief depicting a pharoh's head with two ankhs and stylized flowers. The piece is finished in a gilt wash over. It is marked 800 on the back and likely dates to the time when the discovery of Tutankhamun's tomb inspired a new Egyptian Revival in design. The enamelled pharoah's head is set on a hinge, so it can be clipped over a page to help secure itself.
